Take the Challenge

I think that to be able to advertise our podcasts,we could :
  • Create a competition in which kids from all grade levels and class would have a chance a chance to create their own podcasts based on Word Generation to win a special prize. The Media Arts Class could act as the judges, and vote for the best one. This event could be advertised by schooloop or be postd on the bulletin newletter, so teachers could read them to their students.
I think this is a good way to advertise our podcasts, since the students would need to look at ours as an example of what their podcasts would have to look like.

Blog Entry Semester Paragraph

Media Arts is a class that has made me progress a lot in terms of computer technology. In the beginning of the year, we started of with a project that consisted of finding out why the test scores had improved so much since last year. To tell you the truth, this podcast was indeed very interesting, but to answer this question consisted of a lot of research, which we weren't completely used to. Still, I think this helped me develop a skill of creating theories based on the facts presented before us. It got me thinking, What could have happened? Why did it happen? How did it happen?, etc.

After we put this project aside, we started with the task of creating podcasts based on Word Generation. I have to admit the first podcast I made wasn't so good, but throughout time, I have developed skills that help me with this task. For example, before this, I didn't know how to do a good voiceover, or a creative animation. These podcasts also presented me with different tools found on the internet, like Kerpoof. Sites like these even helped me in my own art skills!

Around the world

I chose to create this picture because it represents the style of light and reflection from many different artists. It also represents our word: Principle. People believe in accepting each other and being able to work together. It should be each and everyone's personal principle.

DERIVES PODCAST

clarity of speech
(Can understand every word spoken. Not too fast nor too slow. )

creative look
(the title, images, video and credits are all easy to see and make you want to look at the podcast. Illustrations are related to the word or sentence and feel original and fresh. The credits don’t go by too quickly and are readable. There’s a sense that the whole podcast has the same theme and look)

creative production
(The music adds quality to the podcast. It’s not too loud nor too soft. You can hear speech over the music easily.  The speed of the podcast is even and flows without blank spots or awkward cuts. There’s something interesting about the way it’s all put together. The Kerpoof picture is relevant to the word and a sentence and makes the podcast more interesting)
including all requirements

(This week’s requirement was to use a Kerpoof picture with a cartoon that used at least one of the words. Great means they used more than one. There also must be
1.    definition
2.    WG sentence
3.    Original sentence
4.    Credits  with no last names
5.    Bibliography with name of web site and urls
6.    Document named the word)
Great
The video in their podcast is spoken with clarity and a good tone of voice, which is neither too fast nor too slow.

They have all the requirements, including definition, an original sentence, credits with no last names, a bibliography, and a document named word.
Needs a little work

I think they should do more than just do a complete video throughout the whole podcast. (fix their theme) I think that may make it a little boring for some people. However, the credits go at a reasonable pace.
The Kerpoof picture is great, but they could try adding some music to help tie the whole podcast together, and give a better essence.

Needs a lot of work or isn’t there at all

Discovering the Unexpected

I didn't know what to expect of Lima, Peru when I got off the plane. It had been eight years since I'd last been here. I was feeling nervous and excited to open my eyes to the city everyone said to have progressed over the years. But nobody told me to expect such beauty and richness in culture and history. These two weeks in Peru gave me a chance to sneak a peek a Peru's past and future. It helped me comprehend how both sides of Peru were each unique and extraordinary. It made me learn how to appreciate it's art, colors, and architectural designs that would date back to the early 1500's, when Francisco Pizarro first conquered Peru. If you walk down to the center of Lima, in which the country's "white house" or Palacio de Govierno is located, you will find a specific architectural design called Balcones (Like balconies) which the Spaniards would commonly use in their constructions of houses and temples.

If you go around the Larcomar Shopping Mall in Miraflores, you are able to get a glimpse of Peru's more modern sites and parks, which are equally just as beautiful and fascinating as the pictures above. The city of Miraflores is located in front of the Pacific Ocean, giving breathtaking views of nature.

Peru has progressed so much since the last time I was here, or so everybody keeps telling me. Everywhere you look around, there's always something in construction or planning. Peru still has a lot of room for improvement, but in the next 5 to ten years, we will see the accomplishments of all the hard work. I can only say that I am proud to be part of this country.

Kerpoof Assignment

CONTAMINATE

My picture was very fun and elaborate to make. Kerpoof was a very intuitive website, with the necessary tools needed in order to create this picture. The word Contaminate is a word that can be expressed in many different ways. The picture we chose to use in our podcast was this one, because it shows a relative image of a real contaminated environment. It even shows it from the animals' point of view. I feel that we made a good decision, since this picture reflects the main idea of our word.

Word Generation Podcast Week 7 Reflection

Throughout this week's podcast, everyone on my team contributed with our podcast. I did not feel like I was forced to do all the work. Gordon did not do as much work, but he still encouraged our group. Jessie helped me with the music and the pictures, while I edited and put the whole podcast (or video) together. Jessie was calm as well as encouraging, which helped us get our work done faster. I think this experience could be better if everyone knows their role in making this podcast even before we being. I can try to not be as bossy, and let others speak and share their ideas.Overall, I think my group was fun to work with. It gives me a chance to actually get to know the people in my group.

Media Arts Podcast Comparison

In Francisco Middle School, students have started a program called Word Generation. This helps us improve our vocabulary now that we're in the 8th grade, and will even benefit us next year in high school.
In our Media Arts class, we have begun to make podcasts that match the 5 weekly words. However, if you look at the podcasts Connor, Annie, and I created, in comparison with the one Derek, Annie, and I made, you will find many differences among them. In the firt podcast, we did not have any background music, animations, or credits. Our voices didn't hold any emotion, making the podcasts dull. The new podcasts have more life thrown in, with our voices clear, and absolutely no background noise. It took us a while to learn how to make this podcasts, and we still have a lot to learn and improve on, but our effort is paying off.

Life

'Twas a night of wonders
when the silver moon stood high
its paleness
reflected,
 a mirror
into the sea.
While the waves rippled,
 the trees sang,
magnificent and grand.

Your mind filled with music
amidst and above it all
a tune
                     a song
                                           a melody
chosen to worship
feelings of bliss.  Joy
in such a paradise

A single  drop of rain falls.
Head tilted
you felt it pour.
Furious waves come,
mournful waves go.
A spark hits the sky.
The thunder awakes,
no more light

Disoriented, you run north
south
east
west
ending at the same place as before.

When morning finally comes,
 light is shown once more
it seems like you're in hell
nothing like before.

A hushed silence
quiets your song.
Destruction, ruins lay beneath your feet
nevertheless
that lucent ray of light
cascading from the sun,
is proof
that all would be renewed.
It's hope that all would be all right
